HEATHER BETH DUKE
Associate Marriage & Family Therapist |
Areas of Specialization
- Divorce - Grief - Dating - Romantic relationship issues - Cohabitation issues Heather Beth Duke is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works from a systemic approach. Rather than focusing solely on the pathology of her client, Heather gently uncovers the nature of the individual's “systems” and then listens reflectively and empathically to the client's narrative. Giving the client space to ponder and reflect on their story allows the individual to dig, grow, forgive, and eventually heal from childhood traumas that continue to plague their adult relationships. Heather has modeled Virginia Satir to tirelessly connect, communicate, and heal countless individuals. Having completed her Masters Degree in Counseling with emphasis in Marital/Family therapy from Capella University, Heather has also received her Gottman Level 1 and Gottman Level 2 training which allows her to tailor her therapeutic approach to couples in distress.
Heather’s greatest passion is to work with couples and empathically listen, teach, and challenge them to deconstruct patterns of unhealthy communication. Couples whose goal is to stay together for the long term need to learn how to express their deepest needs, wants, and desires. Sometimes it is difficult to tell one’s partner “I need and love you" or even "I don’t know how to love you.” These unexpressed feelings can, over time, have far reaching consequences in a relationship.
